Due to weather conditions on the mountain, we decided to delay our summit attempt for a day from our original schedule and stayed in Tashkurgan today.

Last night, I finally fell sick. Around 4 a.m., I woke up with a stomachache. At first, I thought I just needed to go to the bathroom, but then I noticed something wrong. I realized I needed to vomit. However, I struggled to get up from my bed because I really hate puking. It’s just too uncomfortable, yet I knew that it had to be done. After I was done, my stomache was still bloated then I had diarrhea. The symptoms didn’t alleviate until the afternoon.

I suspected that the stomach issues might have been caused by the excessive amount of food, especially melons, I ate yesterday, or maybe some bacteria that I ingested. I was really careful with food today; for lunch, I had dumplings and a bowl of Tofu soup. For dinner, I had some egg seaweed food. I basically didn’t eat anything that was hard to digest.

In the afternoon, I wandered around Tashkurgan. I valued every opportunity to explore this ancient, remote town, because I probably would not return to this place for a very long time.

We also enjoyed our “tea, fruit, chat” sessions after lunch and dinner. All the team members just sat down and talked about their life, their family, their ambitions, etc. I learned that one guy had already planned a climb up Everest this upcoming spring. Good luck to him.

At night, I started missing the many desserts, especially cakes, back in Luoyang. So I went outside with a soon-to-be college senior (one of our team members) to a bakery that I looked up on Chinese Yelp. However, when we got to the location, there was nothing there. After asking three pedestrians along the way back, we finally found another cake shop. Unfortunately, when I went in there, the owner said she had stopped selling cakes this year due to bad revenue. So I ended the day with a little disappointment.
